Someone has asked, “Why is it so important to read God’s Word every day? We read God’s Word to get to know Who God is, Who Jesus is, Who the Holy Spirit is and how God wants us to live. We do not read and study God’s Word for head knowledge but to become like Jesus. There are some things we can know about God just from creation. The Bible says: “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20 KJV) The power of God is clearly seen in His creation. And the Bible also says: “For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another.” (Romans 2:14-15 KJV) There is a difference between knowing about God and personally knowing God. We have already seen in the verses above that everyone knows about God. Sad but true, only a fraction have a personal relationship with Him. Without knowing God personally we can never receive salvation and apart from God’s Word, we can never truly know God and His will for our lives. It is through God’s Word that we learn how God wants us to live. We learn what pleases God and what does not. God’s Word was given to us for many reasons. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV) These verses tell us that God’s Word was given to us to teach us, rebuke us, correct us, and equip us for good work. By reading God’s Word on a consistent basis, we can find direction for our lives and learn how to serve Him. The Bible says: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman the needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV) Although we have the Bible many people refuse to believe that it is the Word of God. We have the choice to make…either we believe that the Bible is God’s inspired Word or we reject it. Whether we believe it or not, God has said it is His inspired Word and He cannot lie. The Bible says, “It was impossible for God to lie.” (Hebrews 6:18 KJV) Because God cannot lie, we can trust the Bible to be the foundation for our lives. If you want to live a life pleasing to God, then you will want to be in His Word daily seeking to know what pleases Him. Another question would be, “Why wouldn’t you want to be in God’s Word daily?”
