It is hard to believe that a week has gone by in 2019. It’s a new year and a time that many people decide to make some changes in their lives. If you have not already done so, the most important thing you can do is to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. We are all sinners and in need of a Savior. The Bible says: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23 KJV) Sin is disobeying God and the penalty is death and separation from God. The Bible says: “Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.” (2 Thessalonians 1:5-9 KJV) There is nothing we can do by ourselves to overcome our sin, but praise God, Jesus became a man and died in the place of sinners. He rose from the dead as proof that God accepted His sacrifice. When we repent of our sin and trust in what Jesus did on the cross to pay for our sins, we are saved by the eternal grace of God in Jesus Christ and forgiven of all our sins. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV) As Christians, we are no longer slaves to sin. The Bible says: “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” (Romans 6:6-7 KJV) We are freed from sin…it no longer has control over us. “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” (Romans 6:12-14 KJV) God sees us as righteous in Jesus and we strive to be Christ-like. “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” (1 John 2:6 KJV) We look forward to the hope of living forever with God in heaven. You may know Jesus as your Lord and Savior and that is great but most of us know someone who does not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Another good way to start the New Year is to share the gospel with others so they too may have the hope of living forever with God in heaven. It’s not to late to tell someone about the greatest gift ever given. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 KJV) Trust Jesus as your Lord and Savior and 2019 will be your best year ever.
