Did you wake up excited this morning? What were you excited about? Many people woke up excited that it is Friday and the last day of their work week. Some couldn’t wait to turn on their TV and listen to the News. Be careful what News Station you listen to if you want to know the truth. People woke up excited about many things this morning and there is nothing wrong with waking up excited, but there is something wrong when we don’t wake up excited about the Lord and what He has planned for us today. We should have been so excited that God has given us another day of life that we started praising and thanking Him for today before we ever got out of bed. We don’t know what the day will bring but God does and doesn’t it make since that He should be the first one we talk to about our plans for the day? The Bible says, “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9 KJV) Following God’s ways and His plan is the only effective way to live our life. We know from previous days that we are going to be tempted to sin. Sin is not necessary. Memorizing and obeying God’s Word leads us to avoid sin. “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” (Psalm 119:9-11 KJV) We cannot live according to His Word without being in His Word. There will be times in our day that we are not sure what we should do, say or which way we should go. The Word of God directs us in the way we should go. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105 KJV) His Word is a lamp that the Holy Spirit keeps burning to direct us to make the right choices and walk in God’s ways. His Word is a light that shines in our path that we may see any danger that might be in our way. When we make God’s Word our guide and obey its teachings, we can clearly see the way. For a Christian, there should be nothing more exciting than being able to spend time in God’s Word, seeking to know Him better and better and to know how we should live. The Bible says: “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:19-21 KJV) I use to wake my children up each morning with a little song that said, “Rise and shine and give God the glory!” Needless to say, they were not too excited about waking up in the morning but I believe that little song that started the day off giving God the glory and the reading of Scripture helped them have a better day than they would have had without it. Let’s rise and shine every morning and spend time with the Lord.
