Love and obedience!
January 11, 2019
So will you commit to make some changes in your life in 2019 so that you may be that bright shining light for God? We can make all the promises we want but until we put Jesus first in our lives in everything, we will never be able to fulfill those promises. Remember, the Bible tells us: “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:30-31 KJV) Christian love is more than just saying you love but that your actions show that love. We are all familiar with the verses above and also the verses regarding what Biblical love is which says: “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth…” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8 KJV) We can never love the Lord the way the Bible tells us to love and we can never love as the verses above say without the Holy Spirit. Only Christians can love as the Bible commands and only when we listen and obey the Holy Spirit. The Bible goes on to say: “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8 KJV) The message is simple: God is love. The word used here for love is agape, which means it is a love that is not selfish or self-seeking but a self-giving love that seeks the best for others. The Bible goes on to tell us: “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:3-5 KJV) We can obey only as we place faith in Jesus and not ourselves. The motivation for obedience is love of God. Faith, love and obedience unites us with God. God’s love is the source of our love. “Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.” (1 John 4:11-16 KJV) You can say you love God and others but does the way you live prove it? You can fool others and even fool yourself but God knows what is in your heart. God says: “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.” (1 John 4:20-21 KJV) Will you let love and obedience rule your life in 2019?
