Many people do not understand the seriousness of sin. In fact, many refuse to admit that what they are doing is sin. If they can’t find it written out in black and white in the Bible, they think what they are doing is okay. The Bible may not describe every sin word for word, but it does describe sin so that we can know what sin is. Sin is anything that is against God. “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.‘” (Romans 3:10-12 KJV) No one is right before God. People turn away from God and toward their own selfish desires. And God has a standard and it is perfect. Jesus said: “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48 KJV) The Scriptures say that no one understands. Unbelievers cannot understand God because they do not have the Holy Spirit. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1 Corinthians 2:14 KJV) Believers have the Holy Spirit, but many times they do not listen to the Holy Spirit. They let sin lead them away from God and they cannot hear what the Holy Spirit is saying. “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.” (Ephesians 4:17-19 KJV) When we allow sin to rule our lives, we will not seek God. We need to ask ourselves if we are living according to God’s Word. We will still sin but it should not be our lifestyle. Many claim to know God but their walk and talk don’t match. The Bible says: “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.” (Titus 1:16 KJV) As the beginning Scripture says, we are all sinners but the question we need to ask ourselves is: Are we slaves to sin? The Bible says: “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” (Romans 6:12-13 KJV) Man needed a Savior because no one can be right before God without Jesus. Is He your Savior or are you just claiming to know Him? Don’t let sin rule your life.
