Have you been shining for Jesus? The Bible tells us that we are to be the light in a dark world. As we look at ways that we can change our lives in 2019, let’s commit to turn up our light for Jesus. The Bible says: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16 KJV) Christians have been saved by God’s grace and their sins have been forgiven but that doesn’t give them a license to sin or live in any way that want to live. The grace that frees us from sin is the same grace that God gives us to live an obedient life for God. The Bible says: “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” (Romans 6:1-7 KJV) God’s grace changes our lives and teaches us to say no to temptations and to live like God wants us to while we are on this earth. Our light will not shine brightly if we are living as the world lives. The Bible says: “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2:11-14 KJV) Jesus is the cure for a sinful world and He uses Christians to spread the truth of His Word to the world. When Christians let God’s Word rule their lives then they will be able to shine brightly in this dark world. May Christians seek to make a difference in the world in 2019!
