We have looked at what the Bible says about salvation and that has brought up more words that we need to know the biblical meaning. We ask many questions regarding believing. For instance, we might ask if we believe it is going to rain today? A student might ask another student if they believe they would pass the test today. But when we ask someone if they believe in Jesus, we are not just asking if they believe that He exists, but if they believe that He is who the Bible says He is and are trusting Him to be their Savior. So Who does the Bible say Jesus is? The Bible says that Jesus is God in human form. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1, 14 KJV) Jesus is the Word alive in human flesh. Jesus did not begin at birth in Bethlehem. Jesus has always been since creation. We cannot explain this with our human minds but we can believe it because the Bible says so and it is true. Before we can believe in Jesus we must believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and everything written in it is true and from God. (See 2 Timothy 3:16-17) The Bible says that Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Do you believe that? The Bible says: “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4 KJV) Do you believe that Jesus’ sacrifice is the only payment needed for the forgiveness of your sins? The Bible says: “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:1-2 KJV) Not only did Jesus pay the penalty for our sins, He prays for believers. We might not completely understand what it means to believe but the Bible is clear on what and Who we should believe. The Bible tells us over and over that Jesus is the only way to be saved. Jesus declares to us that He is the way and no one comes to God except through Him. (See John 14:6) Salvation is found in Christ and Him only. (See Acts 4:12) It is great if you believe this about Jesus, but Biblical belief is more than believing certain things to be true. The Bible says: “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” (James 2:19 KJV) Are you truly trusting Jesus as your Savior? Are you relying on His death as the full and only payment for your sin debt? If you are relying on anything else for salvation then your belief in Jesus accomplishes nothing. Belief in Jesus for salvation is fully acting upon what God has said in His Word.
