“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 KJV) This is a verse that even unbelievers know but many do not know the meaning of it. They don’t understand the love of God; they don’t know who God’s Son is, therefore, how can they believe in Him? We’ve already established that God does the saving but how does He save? The Bible says: “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” (John 3:17 KJV) Jesus is God’s salvation gift to the world. His purpose is salvation, not condemnation. Jesus is the only way to true salvation. Specifically, it is Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection that provides the way for salvation. The Bible says: “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:” (Ephesians 1:7-10 KJV) By pouring out His blood on the cross, Jesus’ redeemed us from slavery to sin and forgave our sins. The Scripture is clear that salvation is a gift of God. A passage that make this clear is found in the book of Ephesians. “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:1-10 KJV) People may be physically alive but when they let sin and Satan rule their lives, they are spiritually dead. But God gives us an option – the way of His love and grace. Salvation is an undeserved gift from God and is only available through faith in Jesus Christ. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12 KJV) Salvation is found in Christ alone and is available to everyone.
