Convictions based on God's truth!
When we start comparing ourselves with other people we can sometimes get a holier-than-thou attitude. The Bible says: “For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” (2 Corinthians 10:12 KJV) We need to keep our eyes on Jesus who is our example to follow. As said before, God doesn’t always answer all of our questions in black and white but He does give godly principles for us to follow and make godly decisions. We should never compromise on the truths of salvation, grace, divinity of Jesus and other truths addressed clearly in the Scriptures. God tells us what sin is…not man. We must be careful not to make our thoughts and personal convictions rules for everyone. At the same time we should not think someone is holier-than-thou just because they are being obedient to God’s Word. We live in a world that has made good sound like it is bad and bad sound like it is good. We need to take all of God’s Word and learn what is good and what is bad. People often ask how can a God of love do this or do that and although we cannot always answer those questions, we can know that He truly is a God of love and everything He does or doesn’t do is done in love. Yes, even God’s wrath is done with love, seeking to bring us to Him. The Bible says: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.” (Romans 1:18-25 KJV) We need to make sure we know the truth of God’s Word and are able to share that truth with others in a loving way. The way we declare the truth of God’s Word will show whether we are being holy as God has called us to be or if we have developed a holier-than-thou attitude. Remember, we are to be holy as He is holy. People need to see that we are holy by the way we live.
